To ensure the safety of passengers and their properties onboard, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) prohibits passengers from taking along some category of items.

They include:

Firearms and weapons. The possession of pistols, revolvers, rifle, catapults, arrows, spears, shotguns or weapons of any kind including fake or toy guns is strictly prohibited. Other blacklisted items in this category include hammers, saws, darts, hatchets, arrows, harpoons, spears, ice axes, ice peaks, knives, scissors, machetes, razor, blades, saws, screwdrivers, wrenches, and spanners. On-duty paramilitary or military personnel are expected to duly notify airline authorities before boarding a plane with their assigned firearms or weapons.

Similarly, chemical and toxic substances are also strictly prohibited. Travelling with pepper sprays, tear gas, biohazard substances like infected blood, bacteria and viruses, poisons, radioactive materials is not allowed. Other prohibited substances in this category include chlorine, bleaching substances, disabling or incapacitating liquids, and fire extinguishers.

Also, some sports equipment are explicitly banned on local flights due to a possible dangerous alternative use. They include hockey sticks, cricket bats, golf clubs, baseball or softball bats, billiards, snooker and pool cues,  batons, fishing rod, martial arts equipment, skates boards and a dozen others.

If you plan on travelling to Lagos from Abuja with the aforementioned items on air, you might want to consider an alternative means to transport them. Normally, as a rule of thumb, if it looks like a weapon, has sharp edges or can be used to inflict fatal damages to other passengers, it probably won’t be allowed onboard.
