Types of Bathtub

There are different types of bathtubs on the market. Here’s a list of some of the popular ones in Nigeria.

Basic Alcove Tub

This is the most common one in Nigeria. In fact, it is the type found in most Nigerian homes you see in Nollywood movies. It is often rectangular in shape and usually embedded in the wall with 3 sides enclosed and 1 side exposed. The exposed side is often one of the longer sides where you get in from.

The bathtub, which is also referred to as a 3-wall alcove tub, is often accompanied by a wall-mounted shower.

It’s available in different sizes, depths, and quality. The material it’s made of greatly determines its quality.

Drop-in Tub

The drop-in tub is similar to the alcove tub but is designed in a way that 3 or all of its sides can be surrounded by tiles or any other material. Basically, this tub is constructed to be easily dropped in a frame or structure. It is usually accompanied by a rim at the top that is attached to the frame.

The tub is easy to maintain and can be replaced without much difficulty. A new tub can be placed in an existing frame without breaking the bank.

Drop-in tubs are flexible and spacious. And are available in a variety of designs and installation options.

Clawfoot Tub

This tub used to be popular before it became outdated. But obviously, it is coming back and fitting into the modern bathroom design. The tub is somewhat distinct from the other types because it doesn’t sit on its bottom but on elevated feet. It comes with its feet just like a chair.

In most cases, the feet can be changed and replaced with different colors or designs that complement the appearance of the bathroom.

The clawfoot tubs are quite more expensive than most other types. They are beautifully constructed with solid designs that are appealing to the eyes.

Freestanding Tub

The freestanding tub has a finished appearance on all sides. Unlike the clawfoot tub, it sits on its bottom and not elevated feet. It doesn’t require any frame or structure; it stands alone.

The tub is available in different designs. The angled freestanding tub has one angle higher than the other to provide support for the head, neck, and back. The oval freestanding tub has an egg-like shape that complements the look of your bathroom. The rectangular freestanding tub has a rectangular shape with sharp edges and smooth outer finish. The pedestal freestanding tub has a seemingly raised section at the bottom that adds some extra height to the tub.

Corner Tub

The corner tub is a tub that is often fitted to one corner or edge of the bathroom. It is mostly small in size and often installed when it is important to manage space. It comes in different styles; clove, drop-in, and freestanding.

The corner bathtubs also have different designs that share a similar shape but feature some little variations in their internal layouts. Depending on your bathroom space and choice, you can decide to have the right-hand or left-hand setup. The available designs include the realm corner bathtub and the Elsdon corner bathtub from Orchard bathrooms.
